The President of the Competition Authority, Birol Küle, stated that they are conducting multiple simultaneous investigations into the red meat sector and have obtained significant findings in this regard.

The President of the Competition Authority, Birol Küle, stated that they are conducting numerous simultaneous investigations regarding the red meat sector and have obtained significant findings in this regard, saying, "We will impose an administrative fine amounting to 10% of the turnover of enterprises that violate competition, based on the authority granted to the Competition Board by our law."

Küle provided evaluations regarding the institution's activities in the red meat sector. He drew attention to the fact that they have received numerous complaints and notifications indicating that enterprises in the sector have jointly determined product prices, agreed to raise prices, or restricted supply. He stated, "We are conducting numerous simultaneous investigations regarding the red meat sector, and we have significant findings in this regard."

PENALTIES OF UP TO 10% OF TURNOVER WILL BE IMPOSED

Küle warned enterprises that continue to violate despite the investigations, saying, "We will impose an administrative fine amounting to 10% of the turnover of enterprises that violate competition, based on the authority granted to the Competition Board by our law. I would like to remind you that we imposed a significant fine on a leading firm in the sector in 2023."

Emphasizing that their aim is to ensure that citizens can access higher quality products at more affordable prices, Küle stated that the red meat sector is critical for them in many aspects when it comes to consumer welfare.

"I WARN YOU..."

Küle emphasized that red meat is an indispensable source of protein for citizens' healthy and balanced nutrition, and noted: "On the other hand, red meat interacts with sectors such as livestock, feed, milk and dairy products, and retail, and therefore plays a key role for many sectors. A competition problem in one of these markets affects other markets as well, and these issues grow larger with a snowball effect. Therefore, we consider the establishment of competition in the red meat sector to be very important from this perspective. We see it as essential for all enterprises operating in this market to determine their prices independently, in line with competitive parameters, and we insistently emphasize this. As part of our commitment to stand against any competitive concerns that affect citizens' welfare, I warn enterprises to eliminate this sector from competition problems. No sanctions will be avoided in the face of identified violations.
