Consumer associations warned consumers to use the accumulated money points on credit cards, some of which will expire on December 31.
The expiration dates for points accumulated on bank and credit cards vary among banks. Therefore, experts recommend that consumers obtain information about the expiration dates of their points through the banks' mobile applications or call centers. Aziz Koçal, Acting President of the Consumers Confederation (TÜKON), stated that the points earned from credit card usage are a right that consumers gain in return for their financial transactions. Koçal said, "However, many banks erase these points at the end of the year or restrict their validity period, causing consumers to lose their rights. As TÜKON, we argue that credit card points are the consumers' earnings and should never be erased." "CREDIT CARD POINTS SHOULD NOT BE ARBITRARILY DELETED"Koçal emphasized that the credit card points earned by consumers as a result of their expenditures should be usable without time constraints, stating: Points should not be erased through arbitrary practices like year-end, and banks must ensure that consumers' earnings are protected. Restricting the validity period of money points or erasing them is clearly against consumer rights and leads to a loss of trust in the financial system. Koçal also emphasized that the Banking Regulation and Supervision Agency should make the necessary regulations regarding this issue, stating that regulations guaranteeing the indefinite usability of credit card points from the date they are earned should be implemented. He mentioned that it should be mandatory for banks to apply a transparent and standard information policy regarding points, adding that the points belong to the consumer. "MONEY POINTS ARE THE CONSUMERS' EARNED RIGHTS"Aydın Ağaoğlu, President of the Consumers Confederation (TÜKONFED), also stated that the money points accumulated on credit cards are the consumers' earned rights. He noted that especially at the beginning of the campaign, the dates on which points would be erased should be specified, and if no information is provided in this regard, consumers can appeal to consumer arbitration boards. Ağaoğlu expressed that banks may have different practices regarding money points, stating: Consumers can check through the mobile application whether the points accumulated in the bank will be erased. My advice to consumers is to check their accumulated points. Especially, they should use the points accumulated on bank credit cards at chain supermarkets or similar shopping points before the end of the year. Because this is an earned right.
