In the case of the murder of university student Ayşe Tokyaz, who was killed by former police officer Cemil Koç and whose body was left by the roadside in a suitcase, police officers N.Ç. and Z.B., who are alleged to have sent Koç the statement of Ayşe's twin sister Esra Tokyaz, made their defense. During the hearing, which was marked by tensions, one of the defendant's lawyers insulted Esra Tokyaz by saying, "You are filthy." When Esra Tokyaz attempted to attack defendant Cemal Arslan, the victim's lawyers intervened.
On July 11, 2025, in Küçükçekmece, the trial of the suspect Cemil Koç (38), who murdered 22-year-old university student Ayşe Tokyaz and left her body in a suitcase by the roadside in Eyüpsultan, is ongoing with 9 defendants, including Cemil Koç. During the hearing at the Küçükçekmece 2nd High Criminal Court, the suspect Cemil Koç participated via the Audio and Visual Information System (SEGBİS). The complainant's twin sister Esra and mother Halime Tokyaz, along with the lawyers of the 9 detained defendants, were present in the courtroom. The complainant siblings Kadir and Kübra Tokyaz also connected to the hearing via SEGBİS.
FILE OF POLICE OFFICERS ALLEGED TO HAVE LEAKED TESTIMONY HAS BEEN CONSOLIDATED During the hearing, the files of police officers N.Ç. (44) and Z.B. (31), who are alleged to have shared Esra Tokyaz's statement given to the police one day after the incident with the suspect Cemil Koç, were consolidated with the murder case at the heavy criminal court. Thus, the number of defendants in the case increased to 11.
Cemil Koç "I SAW CEMIL KOÇ INVOLVED IN AN INCIDENT ON JULY 11 AND THAT HE WAS A FUGITIVE" During the hearing, the detained police officer Z.B., whose file was consolidated from the Criminal Court of First Instance, stated, "I am repeating the statements I made in the other court. I did not know Cemil Koç. I got to know him through the suspect N.Ç. before July 15. I work as a staff member in the forensic office. I was at the Malatya Police Department. On July 12, N.Ç. told me that they were working on a person and asked me to query the system. The requested information was sent to me via WhatsApp with Cemil Koç's T.C. identity number. I sent a summary of the incident the person was involved in via message. I saw on the screen that Cemil Koç was involved in an incident on July 11 and that he was a fugitive regarding this matter. This crime was an incident affecting public order. I did not look at the entire incident summary. Although I insistently stated in my police statement that I did not deliberately look at the incident summary, my purpose there was to indicate that I could not look at the screen because it was my exit time," he said.
TOKYAZ TO THE DEFENDANT: DID YOU DO IT KNOWING IT WAS A CRIME, YOU RUDE PERSON Another police officer defendant N.Ç., whose file was consolidated, stated in his defense, "I do not accept the consolidation decision. The file we are consolidated with is a murder case. I did not think that what I did could be wrong. Cemil Koç called Esra right after the statement and said, 'I have your statement.'
At that moment, complainant Esra Tokyaz said to the defendant N.Ç., "Did you do it knowing it was a crime, you rude person?" Upon this, the court president requested Tokyaz to be removed from the courtroom. While the police were escorting Esra Tokyaz out of the courtroom, Tokyaz shouted at the police.
"I WOULD NOT HAVE STRUGGLED SO MUCH TO HELP CEMIL" After the tension subsided, the defendant N.Ç. continued his defense, "I saw news about this incident on social media. I sent the information on the screen to Cemil Koç. I later learned that Cemil was a fugitive, I called him and asked him to go to the police station to give a statement. I knew that Cemil was in prison and using drugs. I did not know if he had any other crimes. When he called me, I thought, 'Did he commit a crime?' I called the defendant Z.B. regarding this matter. After a while, someone whose name I do not remember gave me a suitcase somewhere, mentioning that there was something important inside. Cemil told me that he had been engaged to Ayşe for 3 months. Cemil also mentioned his fiancée named Ejegül to me. One day when we returned from the airport with Ayşe, I mistook Ayşe for Ejegül. Later, Cemil told me something about Ejegül. When I researched, I learned that the woman was Uzbek and had died. When I heard the news of her death, I became suspicious of Cemil. I did not enter the POLNET system with the information of another person. My statement given at the Criminal Court of First Instance is incorrect. I do not clearly remember whether Cemil Koç had me do a POLNET query or not. I only know Cemil Koç. I do not know the other defendants. In fact, a person named Cemal Arslan was next to Cemil to help him; I was not aware of this. If I had known about Arslan's existence, I would not have struggled so much to help Cemil," he said.
DEFENSE ATTORNEY INSULTED TOKYAZ One of the defense attorneys asked Cemil Koç twice, "Did you see Esra fall?" The murdered Ayşe Tokyaz's sister Esra Tokyaz, angered, said, "He is acting stiff. Ayşe, Ayşe!" The defense attorney then insulted Tokyaz, saying, "I did not do it intentionally. You are filthy." When Tokyaz threw the files at the attorney, the court president again removed Tokyaz from the courtroom.
Murdered Ayşe Tokyaz TOKYAZ CHARGED AT THE DEFENDANT During a break called by the court, Esra Tokyaz attempted to attack the defendant Cemal Arslan. The complainant lawyers intervened. Upon this, Cemal Arslan said, "Call an ambulance, I will get a medical report." The audience and parties were removed from the courtroom. With the end of the break, the hearing continues with the questions of the complainant lawyers to the defendant N.Ç.
DEFENDANT CEMIL KOÇ DID NOT MAKE A DEFENSE According to the information conveyed by journalist İhsan Yalçın from the courtroom; Cemil Koç said, "I did not receive any voice recordings. I did not see the entire report, how can I make a defense? I do not have any concrete evidence. I want to see all of them. This voice recording cannot be accepted as evidence because it has been tampered with. It has been tampered with. I want the petition I wrote today to be accepted. I want the data I requested to be communicated to me. I do not have any video. I sent three separate petitions." In response to the court president's statement, "We did not receive this petition," Cemil Koç said he would not make a defense.
