Former Interior Minister Süleyman Soylu commented on the PKK's disarmament and dissolution, stating, "Today marks a completely different beginning for Turkey. A new era will begin in which our grandchildren will not experience the concerns and fears that we have lived through for the past 40 years."
The Chairman of the Interior Affairs Commission of the Turkish Grand National Assembly and former Interior Minister Süleyman Soylu made evaluations regarding the terrorist organization PKK's decision to lay down arms. Soylu stated that Turkey has entered a new era.
"A PERIOD WILL BEGIN IN WHICH WE WILL NOT EXPERIENCE FEARS"
Süleyman Soylu, in his statement, said, "Today was a completely different beginning for Turkey. A completely different era will begin in which your children, our children, your grandchildren, and our grandchildren will not experience the concerns and fears we have lived for the past 40 years."
"WHAT MATTERS IS THE ORGANIZATION'S SELF-DISSOLUTION"
Regarding the PKK's decision to lay down arms, Soylu described the organization's self-dissolution both ideologically and voluntarily as an important development, and continued:
"What is important is the decision of an organization to dissolve itself both ideologically and voluntarily; to say that my effectiveness, my competence, and my reason for existence have been eliminated and to put an end to it."
"SOME MAY DOWNPLAY IT"
Soylu emphasized that this process carries historical significance, stating, "Today is a historical step. Some may downplay it; no matter what you do, they can find excuses. However, we are currently creating a Turkey without terrorism and, more importantly, a region without terrorism; this is significant for Turkey," he said.
