Following the heavy rain and snowfall in January in Çanakkale, there was a significant increase in the water levels of the dams across the city.
WATER LEVEL REACHED 89 PERCENT
The water level in Atikhisar Dam, which meets the drinking and utility water needs of the city and has a capacity of 54 million 115 thousand cubic meters, reached 89 percent. The Çanakkale Municipality warned that the dam's overflow will operate after the expected rains in the coming periods and cautioned against potential floods in the Sarıçay riverbed.
MUNICIPALITY FLOOD WARNING
In a statement made by the Çanakkale Municipality, it was stated, "According to the information received from the General Directorate of State Hydraulic Works; as of February 5, 2026, the filling rate of our Atikhisar Dam has reached 89 percent. Due to the expected rains in the coming days, the dam's overflow will operate, and the Sarıçay riverbed will flow. Our citizens residing in the riverbed in Atatürk Neighborhood, those living along the riverbed, and our fishermen who moor their boats to Sarıçay are required to take necessary precautions and be careful to prevent any adverse situations for their safety and property."
On the other hand, the water levels in other dams in Çanakkale were measured as follows: Ayvacık Dam 88 percent, Bakacak Dam 37 percent, Bayramdere Dam 52 percent, Bayramiç Dam 100 percent, Zeytinliköy Dam 72 percent, Taşoluk Dam 27 percent, Tayfur Dam 22 percent, and Umurbey Dam 74 percent.
