HE WAS WRITING PRESCRIPTIONS FOR DRUG-LIKE PILLSThe Konya Police Department's Narcotic Crimes Unit teams learned that psychiatrist Dr. Ferit Karaduman was writing prescriptions for drug-like pills for money to mostly drug-addicted individuals at his private clinic in the İhsaniye neighborhood at the beginning of last year. It was determined that the suspects used the pills they obtained with prescriptions and traded them. After technical and physical surveillance, the police carried out simultaneous operations on previously identified addresses in Konya, Karaman, Antalya, and Ankara on Wednesday, April 24. During the searches at the addresses, 178 grams of synthetic cannabinoid, 80 grams of methamphetamine, 2,586 drug pills, and 3 precision scales were seized. THE TRIAL OF 74 DEFENDANTS HAS BEGUNAfter the operation, the trial has begun for 74 defendants, including psychiatrist Ferit Karaduman, who were arrested on the charge of 'trafficking or supplying drugs or stimulants,' with 21 of them in custody, at the Konya 3rd High Criminal Court. The lawyers of both parties were also present at the hearing held in the conference hall. "I WAS TRYING TO HEAL THESE PEOPLE"Ferit Karaduman stated in his defense at the court that he was trying to heal people, saying, 'I was trying to heal these people. In fact, some exaggerated and attacked me. The people I wrote prescriptions for were people I trusted. I was not doing this as a business. My aim was to heal people; I did it to help them get rid of drugs. Sometimes I would also communicate with people via WhatsApp for treatment purposes.' Other defendants also made similar defenses, denying the accusations and claiming that they did not sell drugs and only used them themselves. The hearing was adjourned to tomorrow for the defense lawyers of the defendants to present their arguments.
