The statement of Barış K., the Head of the İZSU Sewerage Department, who was arrested in the electrical current accident in İzmir, has emerged. Barış K. explained in his statement that the observer was authorized during the construction of the grates and that the work at the location where the accident occurred was unplanned. These words proved to be evidence of a chain of negligence.
An investigation is ongoing into the electrical accident that cost the lives of medical students Özge Deniz and İnanç Öktemay in Izmir. It has been revealed that Barış K., the Head of Sewerage Department at İZSU, who gave his statement in the incident where 14 people were arrested, stated that the grates at the scene were examined after the incident and said, "There was no observer at the scene because our observer was on leave."
"OUR OBSERVER WAS ON LEAVE, SO HE WAS NOT AT THE SCENE"
The statement of Barış K., the Head of Sewerage Department at İZSU, among the 14 suspects who were arrested, was enough to reveal the extent of negligence. Barış K., who stated that he examined the grates at the place where the accident occurred after the incident, said, "We have Ezgi Nazaroğlu and Deniz and Alara Hanım in the construction supervision. My responsibility area is the entire Izmir metropolis. Our job is to collect and transport waste and rainwater. I manage administrative tasks. When we do these tasks, we have a construction supervision team. If a problem is reported to me in the field, I go to the field. I examined the grates where the accident occurred after the incident. Our observer Mustafa Atakan was on leave during the construction of the grates, so there was no observer at the scene. While we were working there, we did not damage any cables."
"DUE TO UNPLANNED WORK"
In continuation of his statement, Barış K. said, "Our teams only contact other institutions when they damage the materials of other institutions. We do not prepare any reports when there is no damage to other lines or no negative situation. However, when damage occurs, the contractor company prepares a report. The contractor company is responsible for these damages. If there was any damage, the contractor company was responsible for calling the observers of other institutions. While we were working at the scene, I know that İzmirgaz and Gediz Electricity called and said, 'You can come as observers.'
İzmirgaz came to the scene, but no observer came from Gediz Electricity. We have two types of work. One is planned, the other is unplanned. In planned work, we inform other institutions and Izmir Municipality through AYKOME. Since the work at the place where the accident occurred was unplanned, we only informed the institutions verbally. On the day of the incident, when we went to the scene, the citizens informed us that they had complaints from Gediz, that there was smoke between the asphalt and the pavement, and we reported this."
"EVEN IF WE HAD MADE THE GRATE, THERE WOULD STILL HAVE BEEN AN ACCIDENT"
If we had not made the grate there, there would still have been an accident. I do not accept the accusation against me. I want to be released pending trial."
