In recent weeks, MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli, who called for the PKK terrorist leader Abdullah Öcalan to come to the Parliament and said, "The terrorist leader should come and declare that terrorism has ended," reiterated his call at this week's group meeting, stating, "If the terrorist leader, who has been sentenced to aggravated life imprisonment, is going to say that terrorism has ended and the PKK has been dissolved, then let him come to the DEM Group and say it one by one, and benefit from the right to hope. I stand by my words, and I am insistent on my proposal."
A RESPONSE FROM THE DEM PARTY
While the repercussions of Bahçeli's statement continue, the first response came from the DEM Party. DEM Party Co-Chair Tuncer Bakırhan stated, "Mr. Bahçeli, we took the hand you extended to us, but your other hand was shattered by your partner. There is no problem with the hand you extended to us, but there is a problem with your partner who undermines your other hand. If you want a solution, abandon the trustee mentality. If you want a solution, first lift the isolation. If you want a solution, apply the law," he expressed.
"YOU ARE APPOINTING A TRUSTEE TO THE WILL OF THE KURDS"
Continuing his statement, Bakırhan said, "Mr. Bahçeli, what should the Kurds do? I ask all parties in the Parliament; what should the Kurds do now? Peace cannot be achieved by isolating Öcalan in Imralı and the DEM Party in the Parliament," and added, "Last week, Erdoğan said, 'The addressee of the problem is my Kurdish brothers.' You are appointing a trustee to the will of the Kurds. They are avoiding negotiations. Because negotiation shows who is in favor of a solution. If they negotiate, the realities will emerge. As always, we are ready for a solution today as well. In our hands are peace doves, while in one of your hands is a trustee and in the other is oppression."
