On Friday, January 10, the DEM Party's Mediterranean Mayor Hoşyar Sarıyıldız and four municipal council members, who were detained as part of a terrorism investigation in Mersin, were arrested.
As part of the investigation conducted by the Mersin Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, Akdeniz Mayor Sarıyıldız, Deputy Mayor and Council Member Nuriye Arslan, and Akdeniz Municipality's DEM Party council members Özgür Çağlar, Neslihan Oruç, Yakup Danış, and Hikmet Bakırhan, who were detained by the Provincial Police Department teams on January 10, have completed their procedures at the police station. The suspects, who underwent a health check, were referred to the courthouse.
DANISH RELEASED UNDER JUDICIAL CONTROL
After the prosecutor's questioning, Sarıyıldız, Arslan, Çağlar, Oruç, and Bakırhan were arrested by the on-duty magistrate court upon a request for arrest, while Danış was released under judicial control conditions.
WHAT HAD HAPPENED?
In the investigation initiated by the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office against those committing the crimes of "making propaganda for a terrorist organization," "being a member of an armed terrorist organization," "violating the Law on the Prevention of the Financing of Terrorism," and "violating the Law on Meetings and Demonstrations No. 2911," Akdeniz Mayor Hoşyar Sarıyıldız and 5 municipal council members were detained.
