The details of the ceasefire agreement reached between Israel and Lebanon have been revealed.

27.11.2024 07:50

As the ceasefire agreement between Israel and Lebanon comes into effect, the details were announced by U.S. President Joe Biden. Biden stated that the Lebanese Armed Forces would be deployed to the southern border of Lebanon within 60 days to ensure control of the area, and he mentioned that Israeli soldiers would gradually withdraw from the region. On the other hand, it is claimed that the U.S. made a commitment, not included in the agreement text, granting Israel the right to retaliate if Hezbollah is found to be in violation of the agreement.

The ceasefire agreement announced by U.S. President Joe Biden, following the approval of the governments of Lebanon and Israel, came into effect at 04:00 local time (05:00 Turkey time).

Biden stated that the Lebanese Armed Forces would be deployed to the southern border of Lebanon within 60 days to ensure control of the area. He noted that the agreement foresees the disarmament of Hezbollah elements from the region and their relocation to the north of the Litani River, adding that Israeli soldiers would gradually withdraw from the area during the 60-day period.

THE U.S. AND FRANCE WILL SUPPORT THE AGREEMENT

Biden also mentioned that no American soldiers would be involved in Lebanon during this process, emphasizing that the agreement was reached thanks to prolonged diplomatic efforts led by the U.S. and France. President Biden further stated that an international coalition led by the U.S. and France would provide support for the implementation of the ceasefire agreement.

10,000 LEBANESE SOLDIERS WILL BE DEPLOYED

Biden expressed that displaced Lebanese due to Israeli attacks and Jewish settlers in northern Israel would be able to return to their homes. According to reports before the announcement of the ceasefire coming into effect, between 5,000 to 10,000 Lebanese soldiers would be deployed to the area from the Israel-Lebanon border to the Litani River, where the Israeli army and Hezbollah have withdrawn.

COMMITMENT NOT INCLUDED IN THE AGREEMENT TEXT

In accordance with United Nations Security Council (UNSC) Resolution 1701, the Lebanese government will oversee the sale of arms to Lebanon or the production of arms within Lebanon to prevent the rearmament of the mentioned groups in Lebanon. On the other hand, according to another report in the media, "the U.S. has made a commitment not included in the agreement text, granting Israel the right to retaliate if Hezbollah is found to be in violation of the agreement."
