Ümit Özdağ, the leader of the Victory Party, who is under investigation for insulting remarks directed at President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, has been brought to the Security Branch of the Istanbul Police Department. Özdağ is expected to spend the night in custody and is anticipated to be transferred to the courthouse in the morning.
The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has launched an investigation against Ümit Özdağ, the Chairman of the Victory Party, on the grounds of insulting the President due to his remarks directed at President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan during his party's provincial chairpersons' consultation meeting on January 19, 2025.
As part of the investigation, Özdağ, who was detained in Ankara, was on his way to be brought to Istanbul.

While Victory Party members gathered in front of the Security Branch of the Istanbul Police Department; Özdağ was brought to the Security Branch of the Istanbul Police Department approximately 4 hours after his detention.

On the other hand, a post was also made from Özdağ's social media account. A note stating "You cannot silence me without killing me" was added to the live broadcast opened in front of the police.
DETAILS OF THE INVESTIGATION REVEALED
In a statement from the Victory Party, it was expressed that Özdağ would be brought to the Istanbul Courthouse tomorrow morning at 09:00; the details of the investigation have also been revealed.
It has been learned that an investigation has been initiated against Özdağ for inciting hatred and hostility against the public, in addition to the investigation for insulting the President. Özdağ will give a statement for two separate offenses.
