The Legend Hotel, which stands out with its sea view in Beykoz Riva and means "legend" in Turkish, has become almost dilapidated due to years of legal processes and lack of ownership. The hotel, which has been embroiled in legal disputes since 2017, has become a frequent spot for vagrants and thieves due to increasing security vulnerabilities.
The Legend Hotel, which draws attention with its sea view in Beykoz Riva, has turned into a ruin due to the unresolved legal process that began in 2017. The current state of the 186-room facility was captured in aerial images.
186 ROOMS The interior and exterior of the massive 186-room facility have been vandalized by unidentified individuals. The hotel, with broken windows, removed doors, and scattered rooms, was photographed from the air.
FATE UNKNOWN The Privatization Administration put the hotel up for auction in 2017 for 71 million TL, but the process was taken to court before the auction was concluded. Despite the 8 years that have passed, the fate of the hotel is still unclear. While no official statement has been made regarding the ownership status and future of the hotel, local residents and those living nearby state that the abandoned structure poses a danger.
NATIONAL WEALTH DISAPPEARING Tolga Aray, a photographer in the area, noted that the hotel has deteriorated further each year, stating, "I have been coming here for about four years. We do shoots with friends. The lack of security is a bit of a problem. Because every time I come, I see that this place has become more and more ruined. The beach down there is actually very beautiful. It could be considered like Riva Beach. But it is so neglected that it breaks your heart. Especially in places like Antalya, you can see such a large area. The other sides of the hotel are really very spacious, and those areas are normally national wealth. It breaks your heart. As photographers, we are very happy. It is really hard for people to find such places in Turkey, you know. But this value should not be lost. Maybe if there were security, visitors would pay a bit more attention. Its presence here would lead people to behave more carefully and take better care of it. Millions of lira, perhaps millions of dollars, have been invested here. No matter how much it is public or personal, even if it belongs to one person, this is ultimately a place built with the financial means of our country. It needs to be protected," he said.
"ALL KINDS OF THINGS HAPPENING" Melih Sezgin, who stated that he came for a photo shoot, said, "It is very sad that such a large area is left empty and not controlled by the municipality in any way. Because we can see all kinds of people here. We came here for a shoot today. People generally come here to relax, use alcohol, etc., but some also come for barbecues. There is broken glass everywhere. It is a place where you can encounter danger at any moment; I am sure it is very dark at night, and all kinds of things happen here. It is actually a beautiful cove. It is a cove where I can swim in the sea during the summer, but when you look at it, there are so many people who want to use it with bad intentions that it can be used very easily," he said.
Local residents stated that the hotel is occupied by substance abusers at night, and that theft and vandalism continue inside, calling on the authorities. Citizens demand either the security of the hotel or its reintroduction to tourism.
