An 87-year-old woman who was attacked by a vulture in France has been hospitalized. The incident occurred in the town of Verrieres, located in the Aveyron department in the south of the country, while the elderly woman was in her garden. The attack, which lasted for several minutes, resulted in serious injuries to the woman's arms and wrists. It was reported that the injuries to the tendons of the hospitalized woman could lead to the loss of two fingers. Verrieres Mayor Jerome Mouries stated that the elderly woman's hospital expenses were not covered by health insurance, and therefore the town has taken on the treatment costs. TOO MANY VULTURES BREEDING EVERY YEARMouries mentioned that they reported the situation to the Bird Protection Association (LPO) in France, but the association's officials expressed that "it would be impossible for them to believe that a vulture attacked a human in France or Europe without any photographs." According to The Connexion newspaper, it was noted that the attack on the elderly woman was recorded by cameras, while Mouries called for the control of vultures. According to LPO data, there are 850 pairs of vultures suitable for breeding in Aveyron, and every year these birds produce 500 chicks.
