A 4th-grade student named Kaan Erdem Erol, who studies in Üsküdar, kept his promise in the election campaign he started for the school presidency by bringing former famous football player Mesut Özil together with the students, creating unforgettable moments for his friends.
A 10-year-old student named Kaan Erdem Erol, who studies at the Birikim Schools Çamlıca Campus, has run for the position of school president for the 2024-2025 academic year. Erol, who made various promises during the presidential race, was elected president after a vote conducted by his schoolmates.
HE KEPT HIS PROMISE
The young president, who rolled up his sleeves to fulfill the promises made, invited famous football player Mesut Özil to the school, keeping his campaign promise. Özil, who accepted the invitation, was warmly welcomed by the students in the schoolyard. He took photos with the students and signed the jerseys they brought with them.
Before the interview he would hold with the students, he told an AA reporter that he was excited when he heard about Kaan Erdem Erol's promise.
"IT WAS A SURPRISE FOR ME"
Mesut Özil said, "It was a surprise for me, I was happy. My brother made a promise to his friends, and we kept that promise. We came here. When his father told me about his promise, I said, 'Okay.' Kaan has won, and we are happy together."
Özil expressed that being warmly welcomed by the students was a source of pride, stating, "It is very important to receive the love of the new generations. I have my own children; children are very important, and I am very happy to receive this love."
Mesut Özil advised those who want to become football players, saying, "Looking back at my own childhood, it is very important for them to enjoy the sport they are doing. It is important for them to have confidence in themselves, to work hard, and for families to support them. As long as they have confidence in themselves and enjoy what they do, they will be successful. There are many talented players in our country. Knowing this, I hope to establish a sports academy. Hopefully, we will produce talents like Arda Güler; that is our goal. Unfortunately, there is no one to support most of the young generations in the infrastructure. That is why we will establish an academy. We want to guide children and help them achieve success. We want them to represent themselves, their families, and their country beautifully. We will try to complete the academy by next summer; everything is progressing very positively," he advised.
Later, Mesut Özil participated in the "Sports Conversations Interview" with the students, emphasizing that everyone knows him as a football player but he is also a father, expressing that he has been living in Turkey for four years and is happy to be in the country.
Özil recommended that those who want to become football players start at the age of 6-7-8, stating, "Starting at a young age is very beneficial. If there are those who want to become football players, the most important thing is to enjoy what you do in life. As long as you do this, you will do your best on the field, and of course, never forget your prayers." He stated that he believes the team he performed best with during his playing career was Real Madrid.
When asked, "Cristiano Ronaldo or Lionel Messi?" the Turkish national football player who played for Real Madrid answered "Arda Güler," which received a long round of applause from the students.
Kaan Erdem Erol stated that his teacher supported him and that he made such a decision thanks to him, saying, "My teacher dreamed that Mesut Özil came to the school, and I started that way, and the dream came true. We made assists and goals."
Erol expressed that he and his friends were very happy when they heard this promise, saying, "They supported me more in the presidential election. I became president and kept my promise by bringing Mesut Özil to the school. At first, my friends didn't believe it, but I hope they believe it today. I thank my brother Mesut for not breaking my promise."
After the interview, Özil gave signed balls to the students, and Erol presented flowers to Mesut Özil on behalf of his friends.
