THE TURKISH TEAM FINISHED THE FIRST HALF AHEAD
In a match that started with back-and-forth baskets, the Turkish Women's National Basketball Team, scoring with Sevgi Uzun and Olcay Çakır Turgut against Australia, which effectively used the paint, finished the first period ahead 24-19.
In the second quarter, despite the star-spangled team gaining a 7-point lead in the 12th minute and a 6-point lead in the 17th minute, Australia managed to equalize the score twice. The national team entered the locker room with a 42-40 lead thanks to the free throws scored by Sevgi Uzun with 15 seconds left in the period.

In a closely contested third period, Australia took the lead in the 24th minute and maintained the scoring advantage, entering the final quarter ahead 58-54.
In the fourth and final quarter, Australia extended the lead to 9 points with Smith's scoring play, making it 64-73 with 1 minute and 57 seconds left. The national team, not giving up, reduced the deficit to 2 points with 12 seconds left: 73-75. In the last 8 seconds, Australia scored a basket under the hoop with Wilson. The Turkish National Team's coaching staff and players protested to the referees, claiming that Sinem Ataş was fouled before this shot. The referees, who reviewed the position on the monitor at the request of head coach Andrea Mazzon, did not change their decision. Australia won the match 77-74.
