FIRST FRAME BEFORE THE CRITICAL MEETING
While the Iranian delegation continues its contacts in Islamabad, Iranian media shared a photo from a meeting held before the delegation's meeting with Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif.
In the leaked photo, Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqir Qalibaf is seen speaking at the meeting, while the drinks on the table and other officials taking notes drew attention. The image revealed that the delegation was undergoing a comprehensive preparation process before the meeting.
USA ACCEPTED THE CONDITION
Iranian delegation head Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqir Qalibaf stated that a ceasefire should be established in Lebanon before the contacts in Pakistan, and he also mentioned the release of Iran's frozen assets as a precondition. Iranian media reported that negotiations would begin if these conditions were accepted.
The USA accepted the condition of releasing frozen funds belonging to Iran. An Iranian official stated, "The release of Iran's assets is linked to the opening of the Strait of Hormuz. For Tehran, this is a test of goodwill and an indication of seriousness regarding a permanent peace agreement."
The value of Iran's frozen assets in international accounts is estimated to be between 100 billion and 120 billion.
USA AND IRAN DELEGATIONS MET WITH SHAHBAZ SHERIF
The Iranian delegation, led by Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqir Qalibaf and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, met with Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif. The White House announced that Vice President JD Vance, who heads the US delegation, met with Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif.
WHO ARE IN THE DELEGATIONS?
In today's meetings, the US side will be represented by a delegation led by Vice President JD Vance. The delegation also includes White House Special Representative Steve Witkoff and Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner.
On the Iranian side, Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqir Qalibaf leads the delegation. Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, Secretary General of the Defense Council Ali Akbar Ahmadian, the Governor of the Central Bank of Iran, and some members of parliament will also participate in the discussions. It is still unclear whether the parties will meet directly or indirectly.
WHAT'S ON THE TABLE?
In the discussions, in addition to Washington's 15-point proposal focusing on Iran's enriched uranium and the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, a 10-point plan demanding control of the strait, transit fees for ships passing through the strait, the cessation of all regional military operations, and the lifting of all sanctions is expected to be addressed.
One of the important topics of the discussions is Lebanon. Israel's continued attacks targeting Hezbollah after the ceasefire came into effect raised questions about whether negotiations would take place. Iran's insistence that the ceasefire also includes Lebanon will be one of the significant points to be discussed.
