Famous architect Turgut Toydemir, who was seriously injured by a bullet from the gun of a police officer he argued with in traffic in Beykoz, has died in the hospital where he was taken. The police officer who was taken into custody is expected to be transferred to the Beykoz Courthouse after processing at the police station.
Architect Turgut Toydemir, who was seriously injured by a police officer during a traffic-related argument in Beykoz last night, could not be saved despite the interventions at the hospital. It is expected that police officer S.Ç., who was caught and detained with his weapon after the incident, will be transferred to the Beykoz Courthouse after his procedures at the police station.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Yesterday, a traffic-related argument occurred between Turgut Toydemir, who was driving the vehicle with license plate 34 TC 7374 on Atatürk Street in Göztepe Neighborhood, and police officer S.Ç., who was driving his own vehicle. Toydemir was shot when S.Ç. fired at the vehicle, and the vehicle was able to stop after hitting the median strip a short distance later. Seriously injured, Toydemir was first taken to a private hospital after the initial intervention by health personnel, and then transferred to Ümraniye Training and Research Hospital for surgery.
STATEMENT FROM THE POLICE
In a statement made by the Istanbul Police Department regarding the shooting incident, it was stated, "It has been understood that a traffic-related argument occurred between police officer S.Ç. and the other driver, Turgut Toydemir, while S.Ç. was driving his vehicle. After S.Ç. attempted to stop the vehicle and Toydemir did not stop, S.Ç. fired at the vehicle with his gun, resulting in Toydemir's injury."
In the statement, it was reported that police officer S.Ç., who was caught with his weapon, has been suspended from duty and that the investigation regarding the charge of "intentional injury" is ongoing both judicially and administratively.
