The father of Altay, who lost his life due to pesticide poisoning: We lost our previous three children while they were still in the womb.

Recep Kınalı, the father of Altay Toprak Kınalı, who died from poisoning during pest control in the Konak district of İzmir, stated, "No one warned us. I do not know the company that carried out the pest control. I do not even know my upstairs neighbor. My wife was pregnant three times before, but I lost my children while they were in the womb. We fought for a long time for Altay to be born. Altay was my world, my sunshine. My world has collapsed."

PEST CONTROL IN THE APARTMENT TOOK ALTAY'S LIFE

The incident occurred on November 12 in an apartment on 1413 Street in the Kahramanlar neighborhood of the Konak district. The family living on the top floor of the four-story building had pest control done in their apartment. All apartments were affected by the pest control. Following a report, AFAD Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (CBRN) experts, along with fire and health teams, were dispatched to the address. In the incident, Altay Toprak Kınalı, who lived on the second floor, along with his mother Raziye Kınalı, father Recep Kınalı, and university student Gizem Umay, who lived in the apartment, were taken to the hospital. Altay Toprak Kınalı, whose heart stopped five times and was revived, unfortunately passed away the day before yesterday despite all interventions.

The Kınalı couple was discharged after their treatment. It was reported that Gizem Umay's treatment at Alsancak State Hospital is ongoing. In the investigation related to the incident, three employees of the company that carried out the pest control were detained by the police. The apartment where the pest control was conducted, along with two neighboring apartments, was evacuated by the teams. The evacuated individuals were provided temporary accommodation services by the İzmir Governorship. AFAD CBRN teams conducted ventilation work in the buildings.

"WE ARE COMPLETELY DEVASTATED"

Recep Kınalı, the father of Altay Toprak Kınalı, who died after the pest control in the apartment, described their experience, saying, "On the day of the incident, when we woke up in the early morning, there was nothing in the house. There was no smell, no side effects. My wife was on the floor, and I was like a vegetable in bed. My son was writhing. The emergency service came and carried me downstairs. We learned that my son was given CPR; we are completely devastated," he said.

"NO ONE TOLD US ANYTHING"

Reacting to the statement of the detained agricultural engineer B.Ö. in his testimony to the prosecutor, "I warned the upper and lower neighbors not to enter the building for three days," Kınalı said, "No one warned us. I do not know the company that carried out the pest control. I do not even know my upstairs neighbor. I know there is a bedridden aunt. That's all. Pest control was done in the building, and it was said to one of our neighbors. They said, 'Keep your windows closed,' but no one told us anything," he said.
