The suspect who killed a mother and her two daughters in a cemetery in Adana was caught during a special operations raid while hiding in a 'hedgehog' den. The suspect was arrested by the court he was brought to.
The incident occurred on October 21 at Buruk Cemetery in the Sarıçam district. According to allegations, the mother Şenay (45) came to visit the grave of her daughter Güldane Gerçek's religiously married husband Muzaffer Erkuvan, who had committed suicide a while ago, along with her daughters Gaye (25) and Güldane Gerçek (21).
MASSACRE IN THE CEMETERYMuzaffer Erkuvan's father, Şemsettin Erkuvan, who was following the mother and her two daughters, shot and killed them with a gun before fleeing the scene on a motorcycle. While the police were searching everywhere for the suspect, it was claimed that he killed the mother and her two daughters because he alleged they drove his son to suicide. Muzaffer Erkuvan had committed suicide in August by hanging himself from a tree near his mother-in-law Şenay Gerçek's house in the Menekşe neighborhood of Sarıçam.
CAUGHT IN A HEDGEHOG DENThe Homicide Bureau teams established a special team to capture Şemsettin Erkuvan. After a tip-off to the Sarıçam District Police Department, the homicide detectives in the special team determined that the suspect was hiding in a rugged area in Göztepe neighborhood. With the support of the Counter-Terrorism and Special Operations Department teams, the area was searched for Şemsettin Erkuvan. In the operation, Erkuvan was found hiding in a den that belonged to a hedgehog.
"THE 3 WOMEN I SHOT ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR MY SON'S DEATH"In his statement at the Public Order Department, Şemsettin Erkuvan said, "The 3 women I shot are responsible for my son's death. Therefore, I held a grudge against them. On the day of the incident, I came across them while passing through the cemetery on my motorcycle. I was angry, I couldn't hold back and shot them. Afterwards, I went to the forested area and hid."
After his procedures at the police station, Erkuvan was sent to the courthouse, where he told reporters, "They hanged and killed my son." Erkuvan was arrested after being brought before the court.
