President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan answered journalists' questions upon his return to the country after attending the 11th Summit of Heads of State and Government of the D-8 in Egypt. The new president of the USA, Donald Trump, emphasized that Turkey is an important power while evaluating the recent developments in Syria, stating, "President Erdoğan is a smart person with whom I get along well. He has a great military power. And this power has not been worn out in wars. He has built a very strong and effective army." Erdoğan was asked on the plane what he thought about Trump's complimentary words. Highlighting that Trump's words summarize his and the administration he will form in the coming months' perspective on Turkey, President Erdoğan stated: "WE ARE AWARE OF OUR POWER""Everyone, except for the opposition in our country, is aware of Turkey's power and effectiveness. In fact, they are aware of some things, but since they are not used to speaking the truth, they distort it. Everyone, from international think tanks to the media, writes and draws about Turkey's increasing power in diplomacy. We are also aware of our power and effectiveness. We are concerned with serving our nation, which is the source of this power, in a manner worthy of it. As I said recently, Turkey is greater than Turkey. We have a goal of protecting our lands, developing our country, and taking steps forward by holding on to our roots. In addition, we feel the responsibility to stand by our friends and brothers. "WHAT CAN BE SAID TO A TRUE WORD?"We have reactivated our embassy in Damascus; take a look at the feelings of our Syrian brothers who see our name there. The phrase 'Turkish is what is expected' is not just a randomly constructed sentence. Turkey's emotional borders extend far beyond its physical borders. We have seen this in every country we have visited, in every geography we have stepped into. Mr. Trump is actually emphasizing the strength and effectiveness of our country by making an assessment of the situation. What can be said to a true word? The observations are spot on. There is really no problem between us. As of now, we have had our discussions since he was elected. Mr. Trump is a pragmatic politician. He has a vision to change policies that create costs for his own country and allies. After the handover, we will probably also extend our first congratulations and start to sincerely address the issues on our agenda."
