During the session in the Parliament, chaos broke out after AK Party Izmir Deputy Alpay Özalan punched TİP Istanbul Deputy Ahmet Şık. As the echoes of the incident continued, President Erdoğan made a noteworthy statement regarding the matter. Criticizing the opposition for their stance in the face of this incident, Erdoğan said, "We have been following who has been supporting a provocateur in the Parliament. A handful of marginal opposition has been taken hostage and they are being manipulated."
The General Assembly of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) convened in an extraordinary session to discuss the Constitutional Court's decision regarding Can Atalay, following the opposition's call. During the meeting, a dispute arose between Ahmet Şık, a member of the Istanbul branch of the Workers' Party of Turkey (TİP), and AK Party deputies. The incident quickly turned into a brawl, during which AK Party Izmir Deputy Alpay Özalan punched Ahmet Şık.
ALPAY ÖZALAN CALLED AHMET ŞIK A "PROVOCATEUR"
A noteworthy statement regarding the topic that has been discussed for days came from President Erdoğan. Speaking at a mass opening ceremony for public and private sector investments in Bitlis, Erdoğan criticized the opposition over the fistfight in the parliament. In his statement, Erdoğan said, "We followed who embraced this provocateur, who engaged in provocation in the parliament. If they had the chance, they would have declared this provocateur, who insulted the nation from the parliamentary podium, as a champion of democracy. The fact that the opposition lines up like a string to this chorus is a sign of surrender. They have taken a handful of marginal opposition members hostage and manipulate them. They are disconnected from the people. Our nation sees very well what they are after. It is not possible for any good to come to the country from them. We are the ones who will save Turkey from its troubles."
BOTH RECEIVED CONDEMNATION PENALTIES
Following the fistfight in the parliament, TBMM Speaker Numan Kurtulmuş proposed to the General Assembly that Ahmet Şık and Alpay Özalan be given a condemnation penalty. The General Assembly approved the imposition of condemnation penalties on Şık and Özalan. Ahmet Şık was subjected to a condemnation penalty under Article 163 of the TBMM Internal Regulations, citing the words he uttered towards the AK Party benches during his speech at the podium as the reason. AK Party Izmir Deputy Alpay Özalan, who attacked Şık during his speech at the podium, was also subjected to a condemnation penalty under Article 160 of the TBMM Internal Regulations.
