The Chairman of the High Committee for the Syrian People's Assembly Elections, Muhammad Taha El Ahmed, stated that the number of seats in the People's Assembly, which will include representatives from 14 provinces, will be increased from 150 to 210. He noted that with the new regulation, the representation ratio of the provinces in the assembly will be redefined according to the 2011 census, and that 70 of these members will be appointed by President Ahmed Shara.

ELECTIONS ARE PLANNED TO BE HELD IN SEPTEMBER

Sharing information about the election calendar, El Ahmed announced that after the approval of the temporary election system decree, subcommittees will be formed within a week, and these committees will determine the election board within 15 days.

Emphasizing that the candidacy process will begin after the formation of the committees, El Ahmed stated that the elections are planned to be held between September 15-20, and efforts are being made to ensure that the representation ratio of women in the electoral bodies is at least 20 percent. El Ahmed indicated that the election process will be conducted under the supervision and coordination of the High Election Commission, and that the elections will be monitored by international observers, with the candidates' lists and the right to appeal the results also guaranteed.
