In the Göksu neighborhood of the Mut district in Mersin, a harvest event was held in the greenhouse owned by farmer Mustafa Yılmaz, attended by District Governor Deputy İsa Uğur, Mersin Forest Regional Director Rıfat Ataş, Mersin Forest and Village Relations Department (ORKÖY) Director Necmi Poscu, and other officials. Speaking at the event, Deputy Governor İsa Uğur stated that one of the earliest harvests was carried out, saying, "We hope that such early projects become more widespread across the country."
"WE MADE OUR FIRST HARVEST"
Greenhouse owner Mustafa Yılmaz stated that he has been working with the greenhouse for 3 years on a 1-decare area, saying, "ORKÖY provided 50% support, with 20% of it as a grant. We covered the remaining amount. It was an open area; we closed it and converted it into a greenhouse. We are in February, we harvested our plums, and we made our first harvest. If it were outside, this harvest would have been around April 20th or 30th. We have significantly advanced it."
CANNOT MEET DEMAND
Yılmaz added that they also export to foreign markets in addition to the domestic market, stating that he cannot meet the demand since he is the only one producing early in the region, and that the government needs to provide more support to increase production.
SOLD FOR 8 THOUSAND LIRA PER KILOGRAM
On the other hand, the first plums of the season found buyers at 8 thousand lira per kilogram. A total of 24 kilograms of plums, packaged with 9 pieces each, were sent to Istanbul.
