The claims that Ayşe Barım, the manager arrested as part of the Gezi Park investigation, fell ill and was taken to the hospital have been denied by the General Directorate of Prisons and Detention Houses. In the statement, it was also noted regarding Barım's health condition that "no negative developments in her health have been observed in the measurements taken at intervals and during the checks of her blood pressure values."
The manager Ayşe Barım, who was arrested on charges of directing the Gezi Park protests and sent to Silivri Prison, fell ill at the Marmara Prison in Silivri.
Ayşe Barım's lawyer, Deniz Ketenci, stated in a press release, "She felt unwell while talking to her brother. Ms. Ayşe is a severe heart patient. Open-heart surgery was planned. She has two aneurysms in her brain and is at risk of stroke."
STATEMENT FROM THE GENERAL DIRECTORATE OF PRISONS AND DETENTION HOUSES
A statement regarding Barım was made by the General Directorate of Prisons and Detention Houses through the social media platform X. In the statement, the claim that Barım was taken to the hospital was denied, and information about her health status was provided.
"It has become necessary to make a statement to accurately inform the public regarding the claims in the press and on social media platforms about the health status of Emine Ayşe Barım, who is held in the Marmara Closed Prison," the statement said, and included the following expressions:
"The person mentioned stated that she did not feel well after a meeting she had on the evening of April 19, 2025, and wanted to rest in her room; although no negative findings were detected during the checks and measured blood pressure values, she was wanted to be transferred to the hospital as a precaution. However, the transfer process was not carried out after she did not accept this offer in writing."
"NO NEGATIVE DEVELOPMENTS OBSERVED IN HEALTH STATUS"
The statement also said: "In subsequent checks and intermittently measured blood pressure values, no negative developments in her health status were observed. The health status of the detainee has been regularly monitored both in the institution's infirmary and in the relevant outpatient clinics of hospitals since the initial admission examination, and necessary treatments are being provided without fail. Hospital transfers have been carried out in a planned manner based on the evaluations of the institution's physician.
The unfounded and malicious news circulating in the public about the detainee Emine Ayşe Barım being "taken to the hospital" and "not receiving treatment" does not reflect the truth. The health status of the detainee is closely monitored by all relevant units, and necessary interventions are made promptly."
