In the unofficial results of the presidential election in the USA, Donald Trump won, surpassing Kamala Harris and reaching a total of 277 delegates. The first leader to congratulate Trump on his election victory was El Salvador's President Nayib Bukele. WHO IS NAYIB BUKELE?Nayib Bukele, the former Mayor of the capital San Salvador, has roots tracing back to Palestine under Ottoman rule. Bukele comes from a family that migrated to South America with an Ottoman passport from Jerusalem, Palestine, in the early 20th century. The Supreme Electoral Tribunal of El Salvador announced that Bukele, the candidate of the Grand Alliance for National Unity (GANA) coalition, which received approximately 54% of the votes in the first round of the election with four candidates, won the election. Bukele, whose father was a prominent Muslim businessman and local imam, was born in 1981 in San Salvador. His father, Armando Bukele, was one of the leading figures in the Salvadoran Muslim community. The Bukele family sympathized with the leftist guerrilla coalition Farabundo Marti National Liberation Front (FMLN), which fought against the US-backed military regime during the Salvadoran civil war in the 1980s. Despite the risk of imprisonment and execution, the family provided assistance to some leaders of the organization. Bukele studied at the Central American University (UCA) in San Salvador. Entering the business world at a young age, Bukele worked in the automotive sector and became a dealer for world-renowned brands. Bukele began his political career in 1999 by supporting the presidential campaign of former FMLN leader Facundo Guardado. Later, Bukele entered local elections from the FMLN in March 2012 and won the mayoralty of the town of Nuevo Cuscatlán, south of San Salvador. Bukele won the mayoral election of San Salvador in 2015 from the FMLN.
