The leader of the CHP, Özgür Özel, reacted to the announcement of the minimum wage for 2025 being set at 22,104 TL, criticizing the government for infringing on workers' rights. Özel stated, "The minimum wage of 22,104 TL is the latest indication that Tayyip Erdoğan is disconnected from the realities of this country." Meanwhile, following the announcement of the minimum wage, a surprising decision came from the CHP. The CHP Central Executive Board will meet tomorrow morning.
The Minimum Wage Determination Commission convened for the fourth time at the Ministry of Labor and Social Security at 8:30 PM to determine the minimum wage, which concerns millions of people in Turkey. While Akansel Koç, the General Secretary of TİSK, attended the meeting on behalf of the employers, TÜRK-İŞ decided not to participate on behalf of the workers.
NEW MINIMUM WAGE IS 22,104 LIRA
Minister Vedat Işıkhan announced at the beginning of the meeting that the net minimum wage, effective from January 1, 2025, has been set at 22,104 lira. Işıkhan also stated that employer support has increased from 700 lira to 1,000 lira.
SPECIAL: SHAME ON THOSE WHO STEAL THE RIGHTS OF WORKERS IN THIS COUNTRY
The first reaction from the opposition to the new minimum wage has come. CHP Chairman Özgür Özel reacted strongly to the minimum wage of 22,104 lira. In a statement on his social media account, Özel said, "This is the last sign that Tayyip Erdoğan has disconnected from the realities of this country."
Özel used the following statements:
"The minimum wage of 22,104 TL determined by the hastily held Commission meeting today is the last sign that Tayyip Erdoğan has disconnected from the realities of this country. Those who have been claiming victory in Syria for days have imposed a humiliating wage on the workers. Those who perform false heroism over Syria and obscure the real agenda have once again stolen the rights of workers amidst that fog. Since it was first set in January, the minimum wage, which has eroded by at least 7,000 lira against the cost of living, has been increased by 5,000 lira. While the inflation rate for minimum wage earners is 80%, even the TÜİK inflation is 47%, millions of minimum wage earners have been crushed by inflation. Shame on those who steal the rights of the workers in this country and those who take the burden. I congratulate the Turkish-İş management for not participating in the forced meeting and invite the working class to use the power that comes from production."
