President Erdoğan spoke for the first time about the boycott calls initiated following the arrest of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IBB) Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu and the students who participated in the protests. Erdoğan stated, "The nation did not forgive the campaign against the economy. It did not turn out as they hoped; on April 2, shopping was lively."
The arrest of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu as part of the corruption investigation against the IMM and the subsequent detention of hundreds of university students participating in protests led the CHP to call for a boycott of certain brands.
In response to the CHP's call for a general boycott on April 2, President Erdoğan answered during his exit from Friday prayers. Erdoğan stated, "It didn't go as they hoped; shopping was lively on April 2."
STRIKING STATEMENTS FROM PRESIDENT ERDOĞAN
Highlights from President Erdoğan's speech include: "We have not set a date for the visit to the USA yet. The travel schedules of our ministers are in question. There may be discussions regarding their trips to the USA. Tax-related issues could be among the main topics. The positive approach towards Turkey needs to be implemented."
"THE PROCESS OF A TERROR-FREE TURKEY IS PROGRESSING"
The process regarding a terror-free Turkey is going as we planned. Don't be misled by the steps the CHP has taken against terrorism. We saw the results during Gezi. The steps taken by the CHP will not hold. The People's Alliance is everything for Turkey. The People's Alliance is establishing a terror-free Turkey. There is a Turkey that is getting better every day.
"SHOPPING WAS LIVELY ON APRIL 2"
Shopping centers experienced a more active process on April 2. My nation does not forgive those who continue campaigns against this country. On the contrary, they are shopping more. This demonstrates what this national and local stance is. I thank those who show this stance on behalf of my nation.
"MAY ALLAH GRANT HEALTH TO MY FRIEND DEVLET BAHÇELİ"
I spoke with Devlet Bey on the phone; I told him that we prayed for the late Türkeş. May Allah have mercy on him and grant him a place in paradise. We have been and will continue to be alongside our great ones who benefit this country. May Allah grant health to my friend Devlet Bahçeli. When we asked, 'How are you?' his response was 'quite well.'
