After tying up his wife and beating her following an argument they had in Muğla, the man said in his statement, "It really angered me when she called me a 'gypsy'. After tying her up, I stood in front of her and watched her suffer while smoking a cigarette. She asked for food and water, but I didn't give her any," The individual also stated that he did not regret what he had done.

The statement of Soner Başkan (50), who was arrested on charges of tying and beating his wife Melek Başkan (71) with a rope around her neck and feet, has been reached. Başkan said, "It made me very angry when my wife called me a 'gypsy'. After tying her up, I stood in front of her and watched her suffer while smoking a cigarette. She asked for food and water, but I didn't give it to her," he said.

The Köyceğiz Gendarmerie Command teams took action with the notification received on July 19 through the Women's Support Application (KADES) from Toparlar Neighborhood. The teams who went to the address found Melek Başkan beaten and tied up with a rope around her neck and feet in the living room of the house. Başkan, who was taken to the hospital and discharged after treatment, filed a complaint against her husband. Soner Başkan was detained on the instructions of the Muğla Chief Public Prosecutor's Office. After the procedures at the gendarmerie, Başkan was referred to the courthouse and arrested on charges of 'deprivation of liberty', 'threat', and 'intentional injury'.

"I SLAPPED HER FACE 3 TIMES"

Soner Başkan's statement to the prosecutor's office has been revealed. Başkan stated in his statement that he saw his wife Melek Başkan hiding his medications at home and said, "I asked her to give me my medications. She insulted me by calling me a 'gypsy' and resisted giving me my medications. This made me angry. I slapped Melek's face three times. I tied her up with the rope and cables in the living room on the lower floor of the house, connecting them around her neck and feet. I tied some of the ropes to the safe and the rest to the stairs on the upper floor so that she couldn't escape. Her calling me a 'gypsy' made me very angry. After tying her up, I stood in front of her and watched her suffer while smoking a cigarette. She asked for food and water, but I didn't give it to her. She asked for a cigarette, but I didn't give her one. Instead, I threw the cigarette butt I had smoked in front of her and watched," he said.

"I HAVE NO REGRETS"

Başkan, who stated that he left the house half an hour after tying up his wife, said, "When I returned, the gendarmerie personnel were in front of my house. She had asked for help from the law enforcement officers through an application on her phone while I was on the balcony. I have no regrets about the actions I have taken. I did not threaten Melek by saying 'I will kill you'. I accept the charges of 'deprivation of liberty' and 'injury' against me. The incident happened because my wife Melek was bothering and angering me a lot. Therefore, I have no regrets," he said.
