DOZENS OF VEHICLES AND CREWS MOBILIZED The forested area in Bodrum's Pınarbelen neighborhood was engulfed in flames around 14:15 yesterday. The fire, the cause of which could not be determined, was intervened with 8 planes, 10 helicopters, 2 gendarmerie helicopters, 2 helicopters belonging to the Land Forces, 120 fire trucks, 50 fire brigade vehicles, 1 National Medical Rescue Team (UMKE) vehicle, 2 ambulances, 5 TOMA vehicles belonging to the gendarmerie and police, 16 water tankers, and 500 personnel.
FIGHTING FROM THE AIR AND GROUND As the wind intensified, aerial vehicles made hundreds of sorties to fight the flames from progressing towards Etrim Village Sevda Hill. On the ground, forest workers and fire brigade teams fought the flames by carrying hoses for meters in steep terrain for kilometers.
OFFICIALS ARRIVED AT THE SCENE Muğla Governor İdris Akbıyık, Muğla Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ahmet Aras, Bodrum Governor Mustafa Çit, and Bodrum Mayor Tamer Mandalinci visited the scene and conducted inspections.
WORK CONTINUED UNINTERRUPTED While the fire was being extinguished in the 18th hour, a fire-fighting helicopter took off from the runway of Muğla Forest Regional Directorate Güvercinlik Gökçeler Fire Management Center and conducted cooling operations in the Etrim area of Pınarlıbelen neighborhood with the first light of the morning.
100 HECTARES OF LAND TURNED TO ASHES The footage included numerous planes and helicopters fighting the fire from the air, as well as fire trucks and forest workers conducting extinguishing and cooling operations on the ground. Meanwhile, it was reported that 100 hectares of land were damaged in the fire, which was brought under control in the morning hours.
