A ceremony will be held for the late artist Edip Akbayram on Tuesday, March 4th at 11:00 AM at the Cemal Reşit Rey Concert Hall. Following the ceremony, the artist's funeral prayer will be conducted after the noon prayer at Teşvikiye Mosque, and his body will be buried at Karacaahmet Cemetery.

WHO IS EDİP AKBAYRAM?



Edip Akbayram was born on December 29, 1950, in Gaziantep. He contracted polio when he was just 9 months old. He graduated from Gaziantep Şahinbey Atatürk High School and formed his own orchestra.



He came to Istanbul after finishing high school in 1968. In the orchestra they formed in high school, they played and sang compositions based on the poems of Pir Sultan Abdal and Karacaoğlan. He also released his first record during his high school years: "I did it myself, I found it myself".



The name of the group that released his first record was Siyah Örümcekler (Black Spiders). The record was released in two different editions under the titles "Siyah Örümcekler-Gaziantep Orkestrası" and "Edip Akbayram and Siyah Örümcekler".



In 1972, he gained nationwide fame with his first composition "Kükredi Çimenler", inspired by a poem of Aşık Veysel, and the Golden Microphone competition, which was restructured by Günaydın Newspaper.



With his songs "Aldırma Gönül" and "Eşkiya Dünyaya Hükümdar Olmaz", he broke sales records and won a gold record, and he has received around 250 awards from various organizations.



In 1974, he founded the Dostlar Orchestra and became one of the leading figures in Anatolian rock music. Between 1981 and 1988, the broadcasting of his compositions on TRT was banned.



The album 'Türküler Yanmaz', released in 1994, opened a new chapter in Edip Akbayram's career. The master artist dedicated the songs in his album to those who lost their lives in the Sivas massacre. In 1996, he met music lovers with the albums Güzel Günler Göreceğiz, in 1997 Yıllar, in 1998 Dün ve Bugün, and in 1999 İlk Günkü Gibi. Edip Akbayram's last album, titled 'Mayıs', was released in 2012.
