Raziye and Recep Kınalı, the parents of Altay Toprak, who lost his life due to poisoning after a bedbug extermination on 1413 Street in the Heroes Neighborhood and was buried yesterday in Pınarbaşı Cemetery, visited their baby's grave. The Kınalı couple, who shed tears and prayed at the grave of their lost baby, were consoled by their relatives. In a statement here, father Kınalı explained that he was not at home during the extermination, while his wife and son had gone to visit his brother. Kınalı stated that those living in the apartment above called his wife to inform her that extermination would take place and urged her to come home urgently and close the windows. He mentioned that his brother went to the house, and at that time, he saw that the extermination had already been completed. "HE SAID THERE WOULD BE NO PROBLEM FOR MY BROTHER"Kınalı said: "When my brother went home, he saw that tape had been placed on the outer door of the apartment where the extermination was done. He asked them, 'You have finished the extermination, you are calling us, won't there be a problem?' They told my brother, 'There won't be a problem, it's just a normal extermination, just don't come home for a day.' The next day, I stayed home alone, and the following day, my wife and child stayed home with me." "WE DIDN'T REALIZE WE WERE POISONED"Kınalı expressed that he did not experience any negative effects on the first day he stayed at home, which is why he called his family to come home. However, he said that on the night of the incident, their son could not sleep. Kınalı continued: "Around 6-7 in the morning, my wife and I collapsed on the floor, we were very bad. I called my brother, and he sent my sister-in-law. My sister-in-law asked, 'How are you staying here?' We didn't realize we were poisoned; my sister-in-law took Altay Toprak and left the house. I couldn't get out of bed; I couldn't feel my legs, my stomach, or any part of my body. My wife was in the bathroom corridor, and I was lying in bed like a dead person. The moment we realized we were poisoned, we called an ambulance, but it was too late." "I COULDN'T PROTECT MY SON"Kınalı, who explained that he and his wife had been trying to have a child for a long time and that their previous three children had died in the womb, stated: "Altay Toprak is our fourth son. The previous three sons died in the womb; we were not able to hold them in our arms. Then God granted us Altay Toprak. I couldn't protect my son in this cruel world. I feel very bad for not being able to protect him. In the morning, we were served molasses and tahini for breakfast, but we couldn't eat. My son loved molasses and tahini; he would fly in the air while eating it. I couldn't protect my son from filthy people in this world. Everyone is after profit; no one thinks about anyone else. People think, 'I will do my job, and whatever happens to others is not my concern.' Kınalı emphasized that they had previously exterminated their home due to bedbugs but that no one was harmed, stating, "From now on, we will fight for rights, justice, and legal matters for my son. I will defend my son's rights and justice to the end." Father Kınalı expressed his gratitude to the institutions and individuals who called him after the tragic incident to offer support for the legal struggle, adding that the Altay Sports Club, which he supports and named his son after, would not leave them alone in this fight. Meanwhile, it was learned that the measurements taken by AFAD teams in the apartment where the extermination was carried out showed that the values had returned to normal, and permission would be granted for entry into the evacuated building today. THE INCIDENT AND LEGAL PROCESSAfter a pest extermination in an apartment in the Konak district of İzmir, 1-year-old Altay Toprak Kınalı died from poisoning, while 3 people who were taken to the hospital were discharged after treatment, and the building was evacuated.
