The deadline for the ban on the use of APP license plates imposed by the Ministry of Interior is just hours away. Long queues have formed at license plate exchange centers ahead of the ban, which will begin inspections on April 1. A driver who came for the APP license plate exchange said, "There are a lot of people in line, we don't know how it will go."

With the expiration of the period granted under the ban on APP license plates imposed by the Ministry of Interior today, there was a surge at the license plate change points. Citizens arriving at the license plate change centers with their vehicles from the early hours of the morning in Ankara formed long queues to complete the transition to standard plates.

The ban is about to end

While there was noticeable activity throughout the day at the License Plate Change Center of the Ankara Public Automobile and Drivers Tradesmen Chamber, delays occurred in the processes from time to time due to the crowd. Officials stated that they would extend working hours to prevent citizens from being victimized. Some citizens expressed their regret for waiting until the last day, stating that they had not found the opportunity earlier. Authorities emphasized that the use of APP license plates would now be subject to penalties and that the use of standard plates had become mandatory.

"THERE ARE A LOT OF PEOPLE, WE DON'T KNOW HOW IT WILL BE"

Ali Dönmez, who arrived early at the license plate change center for the APP plate change, said, "Today is the last day for the license plate change. It is very crowded and there are a lot of people, we don't know how it will be. They have issued a new stamp for the plates. There should be a seal. I have been waiting here for an hour. I am at the end of the line. We will wait even longer. I don't know if this application is good or bad, but I hope it will be good," he said.

"UNFORTUNATELY, WE LEFT IT TO THE LAST DAY"

Fatih Başaran, who stated that changing APP plates is logical because the radar cannot read such plates, said, "Unfortunately, we left it to the last day. There are a lot of people, we are trying to make it in time. Our work is not finished yet. Mine was an APP plate. We are trying to change it. It has been banned. It is actually a good thing. They say it doesn't pass through the radar. We have to change it. I have been trying to change the plate since 9 o'clock," he said.

In a written statement from the ministry, it was stated, "As of April 1, penalties will be definitively imposed on those using fake plates (printed outside of the Turkish Drivers and Automobile Federation (TŞOF) and not meeting security standards), and an administrative fine of 140 thousand TL will be imposed. Even if they are printed incorrectly, no penalties will be imposed for plates issued by TŞOF, and the replacement of these plates will be ensured within the specified process," it was stated.

The technical standards for multimedia screens and speaker/sound systems used in vehicles will be clarified in the upcoming regulations to be published.
