It has been reported that journalist İsmail Saymaz, who was placed under 'house arrest' as part of the Gezi Park investigation, has had his judicial control measures lifted and has been released with a travel ban and the condition of signing in once a week.
The 'house arrest' imposed by the court on journalist İsmail Saymaz, who was referred to the court as part of the Gezi Park investigation, has been lifted.
As part of the investigation conducted by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, it was determined that journalist İsmail Saymaz had conversations with individuals involved in the preparation of the website of Mehmet Osman Kavala, the organizer of the Gezi Park events, and those who planned to establish a television channel aimed at disseminating the protests through the media.
HOUSE ARREST DECISION HAD BEEN MADE
Within the scope of the investigation, it was established that Saymaz had intense contact with the defendants of the Gezi Park case, Mehmet Osman Kavala, Şerafettin Can Atalay, Çiğdem Mater Utku, and Ayşe Mücella Yapıcı, that he made numerous posts on social media regarding the events, and that he actively participated in the events by providing misleading information on social media to incite citizens against law enforcement agencies.
As part of the investigation, Saymaz was arrested for the crime of 'aiding and abetting an attempt to overthrow the government of the Republic of Turkey,' taken into custody, and after the procedures at the police station, he was referred to the Istanbul Courthouse in Çağlayan. After the statement procedures at the Peace Criminal Court, judicial control was applied to Saymaz, and he was placed under 'house arrest.'
SAYMAZ'S HOUSE ARREST HAS BEEN LIFTED
In the ongoing investigation, the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office requested the lifting of the judicial control measure of "house arrest" against journalist İsmail Saymaz and proposed that a judicial control measure be applied requiring him to sign once a week and a travel ban. The Istanbul Peace Criminal Court also decided to lift the judicial control measure against Saymaz and to impose a signature requirement and a travel ban.
