The imam R.K., who served in the village of Tavşantepe where 8-year-old Narin Güran was murdered, has been dismissed by the decision of the Presidency of Religious Affairs. After being detained following the murder, he was released, and an investigation was launched against him due to allegations of inappropriate images on his phone, with two inspectors assigned to the case.

After leaving the Quran course in the rural Tavşantepe neighborhood of the Bağlar district in Diyarbakır, Narin Güran (8), who went missing and was found dead in a riverbed 19 days later, received aggravated life sentences for the detained suspects, mother Yüksel, brother Enes, and uncle Salim Güran, while detained suspect Nevzat Bahtiyar was sentenced to 4 years and 6 months in prison.

HE WAS DETAINED AFTER THE MURDER AND RELEASED

Today, another noteworthy development occurred following the decision hearing closely followed by Turkey. R.K., one of the 23 people detained as part of the investigation and released on September 11, was alleged to have inappropriate images on his phone, especially on social media.

2 INSPECTORS HAD INITIATED AN INVESTIGATION

Following these allegations, an administrative investigation was initiated against R.K. The Presidency of Religious Affairs assigned 2 inspectors to start an investigation regarding the matter.

DISMISSED BY THE PRESIDENCY OF RELIGIOUS AFFAIRS

According to journalist Emrullah Erdinc, as a result of the investigation, imam Recep Kaya was dismissed from his position due to the provisions of Article 98 (b) of the State Personnel Law No. 657, which states: "If it is later understood that he does not meet any of the conditions for being appointed to the public service or loses any of these conditions during his service."

DOZENS OF QUESTIONS REMAIN UNANSWERED

Dozens of questions remain unanswered in the Narin case, such as what the imam mentioned in court knew and why he looked at the camera footage.
