PEZESHKIAN READ A TURKISH POEM
The President of Iran, Pezeshkian, read the poem "Greetings to Haydar Baba" in Azerbaijani Turkish, written by the famous Turkish poet Muhammad Hussein Behcet Tabrizi, known as Shahriyar, at the closing ceremony of Tabriz Culture Week.
Before reading the poem, Pezeshkian stated that he would read two lines of poetry from Shahriyar but mentioned that the officials objected to him speaking in Turkish because there were non-Turkish speakers in the hall. He then began to read the following lines: "Heyder Baba, a brave man does not tire / Life passes, but the legend does not end / A coward does not live to see the end of life / We swear we will not forget you / If we do not see you, forgive us."
"THERE IS NO PROBLEM IN READING TWO TURKISH POEMS"
While he continued reading the poem, an official came to Pezeshkian and warned him. In response, the President of Iran laughed and said, "There is no problem, there is no issue in reading two Turkish poems." Following this, those present in the hall applauded Pezeshkian.
Former President of Iran, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, also read Shahriyar's poem during his visit to Tabriz in 2006. Ahmadinejad, who read the poem in Azerbaijani Turkish, was accompanied by the people of Tabriz.
