The Köfteci Yusuf scandal could cost a minister their position.

The Köfteci Yusuf scandal could cost a minister their position.

16.10.2024 14:30

After President Erdoğan announced that there would be changes in the cabinet, the corridors of power became lively. While many names likely to be crossed out in the new term came to the forefront, it was suggested that Minister of Agriculture and Forestry İbrahim Yumaklı, who drew criticism due to the Köfteci Yusuf incident, is at the top of the list. It is being discussed that Vahit Kirişci will be appointed in Yumaklı's place.

While discussions continue regarding Köfteci Yusuf, which has come to the forefront of the agenda with the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry's announcement of companies selling counterfeit and adulterated products, a surprising claim has emerged.

MINISTER YUMAKLI MAY GO

Following President Erdoğan's announcement that there would be changes in the cabinet, attention turned to which ministers would be removed. It is suggested that Minister of Agriculture and Forestry İbrahim Yumaklı, who has drawn criticism due to the Köfteci Yusuf incident, is at the top of the list, as Erdoğan is expected to make this revision before the AK Party MYK meeting at the end of the month.

CRITICIZED WITHIN THE PARTY AS WELL

It is reported that Minister Yumaklı is facing intense criticism within the AK Party, especially regarding the Köfteci Yusuf incident. Comments are being made that the controversial situation surrounding a Turkish brand valued at least 2 billion dollars, which employs approximately 12,000 people, could cost Yumaklı his position. It is stated that Vahit Kirişci will be reinstated as the Minister of Agriculture and Forestry in Yumaklı's place.

SUPPORT POURED IN, BRANCHES FILLED

Many citizens who believe that Köfteci Yusuf, which has a total of 278 branches in 42 provinces, has been treated unfairly by the Ministry, flocked to the branches to show their support. A video that went viral on social media showed one of the company's branches completely full. Comments such as "Yusuf did good advertising," and "I think they threw Yusuf into the well, but the public will pull him out" drew attention under this rapidly viral footage.

ERDOĞAN SAID "THEY HAVE THE RIGHT TO DEFENSE"

President Erdoğan also joined the discussions about Köfteci Yusuf, stating: "In the inspection of the köfteci you mentioned, inappropriate food was detected in two branches in Ankara. A criminal complaint is filed with the prosecutor's office. There are objection processes. The court first cancels our Ministry of Agriculture's decision, and when the Ministry appeals this decision, the objections are accepted this time. When the judicial process is completed and finalized, this inspection report is published. The administrative actions taken by our Ministry are also under judicial review. Everyone has the right to defend themselves. Ultimately, the court makes the final decision, and the Ministry publishes the results of the inspection. These inspections will continue, and they are ongoing. Ultimately, food is indeed a matter that must be taken seriously."
