A new development has emerged in the investigation into the mysterious death of Yılmaz Akan, the pide master whose body washed ashore in Samsun six months ago. The last footage of Akan heading towards the beach has been revealed.

M.A. (50), who lives in the Canik district of Samsun, went to the police station on March 24 at around 10:00 PM and reported that her husband Yılmaz Akan, who works as a pide master at a döner shop, was missing.

"I CALLED MY WIFE BUT SOMEONE ELSE ANSWERED"

M.A. stated in her testimony, "My husband left the house saying he was going to work. However, we could not hear from him later. I called his workplace, but they said he did not go to work; we looked everywhere but could not find him. We called his phone, but someone else answered. When I called again, I could not reach him," she said.

On March 25 at around 1:00 PM, M.A. went to the police station again and provided additional testimony. In her statement here, she said, "When I called multiple times yesterday, a person named A.G. answered the phone. When I asked, 'Who are you?', the person on the phone said, 'This phone is mine' and hung up. The phone keeps ringing, but no one answers. I suspect for my husband's life," she said.

PHONE AND WALLET MISSING

On March 27 at around 12:00 PM, a person walking along the beach in the Kirazlık neighborhood of Tekkeköy district reported to the police after seeing someone lying face down on the shore. Upon investigation, it was determined that the deceased person was Yılmaz Akan. Akan's lifeless body was taken to the Samsun Forensic Medicine Group Presidency for autopsy. No phone or wallet was found on Akan.

"I LEARNED HE HAD 800 THOUSAND TL DEBT"

The prosecutor's office, which deepened the investigation, summoned M.A., Yılmaz Akan's wife, and his colleague A.Ö. for questioning. In her statement, M.A. said, "After my husband passed away, I learned that he had 800 thousand lira in debt. I believe he had no alcohol habits. In our 30 years of marriage, I saw him drink alcohol once. He did not know how to swim, but he did not have any strange behavior before his death. He is not prone to suicide; he was very religious and full of life. I do not think he committed suicide. Maybe he drank alcohol to cope with the debts and lost his balance, falling into the sea. I want an investigation into whether there is any suspicious situation regarding my husband's death," she said.

"VERY RELIGIOUS AND AGAINST SUICIDE"

A.Ö. (52), a friend of Akan, also stated in his testimony: "When they told me that Yılmaz was missing, I wanted to call. He did not answer my initial calls. Then the person on the phone introduced himself as A.G. and said he was Yılmaz's close friend. Then he hung up. He did not answer when I called again. I absolutely do not think Yılmaz would commit suicide. I have known him for 40 years. He is very religious and against suicide. I know he has debts. He might have fallen into the sea while trying to clear his mind due to these debts; he did not know how to swim."

LAST MOMENTS ON CAMERA

The prosecutor's office was unable to reach a person named A.G. related to the incident during its investigation. The autopsy report indicated that Akan drowned, and there were no signs of trauma or foul play on his body, but it was determined that he was under the influence of alcohol. The prosecutor requested the examination of the camera recordings in the area. The investigation revealed that Akan went towards the beach area of Doğu Park in the Belediyeevleri neighborhood of Canik district at around 11:00 AM on March 24, ran across the road, walked through the tram overpass, and was not seen on any security camera afterward. The investigation into Akan's suspicious death is ongoing.
