The Homicide Bureau of the Denizli Provincial Police Department launched an investigation after the incident and determined that the person who carried out the attack and fled in a car was Melih K. It was determined that İzzet Duman was with Melih K. at the time of the incident. While Melih K. was being sought, İzzet Duman surrendered to the police 2 days later. Duman was arrested by the court he was referred to.
"HE POINTED THE GUN AT EMRAH"
In his statement to the police, İzzet Duman stated that he was with his friend Melih K. at the time of the incident and said, "Melih K. told me that his wife was cheating on him with Emrah Görmez. While we were driving around in the back streets, we came across Emrah Görmez. The cars stopped and Emrah Görmez and Melih K. made eye contact. Melih K.'s eyes filled with tears and he took out his gun from the window of his car and pointed it at Emrah Görmez. Görmez also took out his own gun and pointed it at Melih K. Taking advantage of a momentary gap, I took the gun from Melih K.'s hand and got out of the car. Without pointing the gun at Emrah Görmez, I said, 'Emrah, put your gun down, you are being dishonest and standing against us'." He described the incident with these words.
"HE TOOK MY GUN AND FIRED AT HIS FEET"
While saying these words, Duman stated that Emrah Görmez was still pointing his gun at Melih K. In the continuation of his statement, he said, "In order to prevent the incident from getting worse, I fired two shots into the air with the gun I took from Melih K. Upon this, Emrah Görmez lowered his gun. I sat in the left seat of the car we were using again. Emrah Görmez, on the other hand, waited with a gun in his hand and did not step back. I said to Melih K., 'Let's leave from here', but suddenly he took the gun from my hand, got out of the car, pointed it at Emrah Görmez and fired two shots towards his feet."
HE BEGGED "DON'T SHOOT MY FATHER"
In his statement, İzzet Duman also mentioned that at that moment Muhammet Hüseyin Görmez, the son of Emrah Görmez, intervened and said, "Don't shoot my father". He said, "At that moment, one of the bullets from Melih K.'s gun hit Muhammet Hüseyin Görmez and he fell to the ground. After the child fell to the ground, Melih K. fired consecutive shots at Emrah Görmez. When the bullets ran out, Melih K. dropped the gun from his hand. Melih K. picked up the gun from the ground and repeatedly hit Emrah Görmez on the head with the butt of the gun. After the incident, Melih K. got in the car and left the scene."
