The lawsuit filed for the cancellation of the CHP's 38th Ordinary Istanbul Provincial Congress has been postponed to May 15. The court decided that Gürsel Tekin and the committee will continue in their duties.

The court in the case opened at the Istanbul 45th Civil Court of First Instance for the annulment of the CHP's 38th Ordinary Istanbul Provincial Congress, in its interim decision dated September 2, temporarily removed Provincial Chairman Özgür Çelik and his administration from their duties and appointed Gürsel Tekin and his accompanying team as trustees. It was ruled that the CHP's objection to this decision would be addressed in a hearing.

REQUEST TO SUSPEND JUST MINUTES BEFORE THE CONGRESS

During this process, the CHP Extraordinary Provincial Congress was held on September 24. Despite the Supreme Election Council's previous decision stating that "an ongoing congress cannot be suspended," the Istanbul 45th Civil Court of First Instance sent a letter to the Istanbul Governorship and the Sarıyer 1st District Election Board requesting the elections to be suspended just minutes before the congress. Following this, after the application of the Sarıyer District Election Board, the Supreme Election Council convened and decided to continue the congress that was requested to be annulled.

ÇELİK WAS RE-ELECTED TWICE

Özgür Çelik, the only candidate at the extraordinary congress, was re-elected as provincial chairman by receiving the votes of 386 delegates. Çelik was also elected to the position of provincial chairman in the ordinary congress held after the extraordinary congress. Thus, he took on the presidency twice after the court's decision to remove him from office.

THE PRECAUTIONARY MEASURE CONTINUED

The court stated in the last hearing that Tekin's position would be evaluated between sessions, but left this evaluation to the hearing. The objections made against the appointment of Tekin and the accompanying individuals as a "precautionary committee" were addressed in today's hearing.

It was ruled that there was no new condition for the approval or removal of the appeal regarding the precautionary measure, and the decision was continued. It was decided that Tekin would continue in his position, and the hearing was postponed to May 15.

WHAT HAD HAPPENED?

In the case opened at the Istanbul 45th Civil Court of First Instance for the annulment of the CHP's 38th Ordinary Istanbul Provincial Congress, the court announced its interim decision on September 2. In its interim decision, the court had decided to "temporarily remove from office" Özgür Çelik, who was elected as Provincial Chairman at the CHP's 38th Ordinary Istanbul Congress, as well as the Provincial Board of Directors and the Provincial Disciplinary Board elected at the same congress. In the same interim decision, 5 individuals were appointed as trustees along with Gürsel Tekin.

The CHP had appealed against the precautionary measures contained in the interim decisions dated September 2, 2025, of the Istanbul 45th Civil Court of First Instance. As a result of its evaluation, the court decided that all objections of the CHP regarding the "Precautionary measure" decision would be addressed in a hearing.

On the other hand, the CHP's Extraordinary Provincial Congress was held on September 24. Özgür Çelik, the only candidate, was re-elected as provincial chairman by receiving the votes of 386 delegates. Thus, Çelik was re-elected as chairman after being removed from office by the court.
