CHP General Chairman Özgür Özel came to the city to participate in the programs organized by his party and to inaugurate the facilities implemented by the Mersin Metropolitan Municipality. Özel was welcomed by the party's members of parliament, mayors, and party members. As part of the programs, Özel first visited the provincial headquarters of his party.

Stating that he will attend a major opening ceremony at 3:00 PM today, Özel said, "We will discuss everything on Turkey's agenda there. In fact, we will make a long-awaited start there. We will make a big surprise. On January 2, we held the first rally, the first meeting of the year in my hometown, Manisa. Then we met with our people in Ardahan, Kars, Sarıkamış, Erzurum, and yesterday in Cihanbeyli and Ereğli in Konya. Today, we will have visits and activities in Mersin. But at 3:00 PM, we will have a new message and a new beginning from Mersin to Turkey. I want everyone to come to that square. I hope we can collectively realize the message we will give to all of Turkey and an important beginning in that square," he expressed.

Praising the alliance established in Mersin during the March 31 local elections, Özel said, "After the March 31 elections, without a doubt, one of the first places to be visited should have been Mersin. In the great victory of March 31, to make visible the great success of the Turkey alliance, which was achieved not only by social democrats but also by conservative democrats, nationalist democrats, and Kurdish democrats working shoulder to shoulder, we started visiting our municipalities from the places where alliances were first established. Of course, there is an example among them. That example is the Mersin example, where the Turkey alliance was established years ago. In Mersin, beautiful people from all sociologies, all sects, and all beliefs from all over Turkey established the Mersin alliance, standing side by side without conflict, without interfering with each other's cultures," he said.
