Between 2015 and 2017, the legendary football player Lukas Podolski, who wore the jerseys of Galatasaray and Antalyaspor in 2020, later retired from football and entered the döner business in Germany, has failed. Podolski, with his charming demeanor, wanted to carry the popularity he gained in Turkey to Germany and made headlines with the first branch he opened in Berlin by entering the döner business. Long queues formed in front of the shop named "Mangal Döner" opened in Kreuzberg, attracting great interest. REACHED 30 BRANCHES IN A SHORT TIMEThis new venture that Podolski embarked on after his football career initially seemed successful, but things did not go as expected. 'Mangal Döner', which served with branches established in 30 cities in Germany in a short time, closed its doors in Berlin due to economic reasons. HIGH PRICES AND INTENSE COMPETITIONAmong the reasons for the shop's closure in a short time are cited high prices and intense competition. Although Podolski's company stated that the shop was a "pop-up" store and therefore would be short-lived, established only to grant franchises, this situation was not initially shared with the public. On the other hand, neighboring business owners attributed the shop's failure to high prices and a weak menu. It is particularly noted that a price of 7.50 Euros for a classic kebab is quite high compared to other kebab shops in the area.
