The new duty change circular was published with the signature of the Chief of Police, Mahmut Demirtaş. With the circular, the distribution of duties among the Deputy Chiefs of Police was reorganized. It was stated that the deputy chiefs would also be responsible for carrying out other tasks in addition to their assigned duties. Furthermore, in the absence of a Deputy Chief, the next deputy in written order will carry out the duties temporarily.
NEW ASSIGNMENT FOR MAHMUT ÇORUMLU, A SYMBOLIC NAME IN THE FIGHT AGAINST FETÖ
One of the changes immediately caught the eye. The duty of Mahmut Çorumlu, the Deputy Chief of Police who is among the symbolic names in the fight against FETÖ, has changed. Çorumlu, who previously had a connection to the Directorate of Smuggling and Organized Crime and the Cyber Crime Department, was assigned to a relatively passive presidency. He was given the responsibility of the Witness Protection, Document Management and Coordination, Social Services, and Health Departments.
THE CHANGE ALSO BROUGHT REACTIONS
The change in question caused reactions. With Çorumlu's new appointment, questions such as "Will the fight against FETÖ be hindered?" also arose.
"CUCKOO" POST WAS MUCH TALKED ABOUT
In a post he made in 2023, Mahmut Çorumlu stated, "Again cuckoo birds... there are so many that we are having a hard time distinguishing them." Çorumlu, who quoted this post again in 2024, said, "Again, cuckoo birds." This message from Çorumlu was interpreted as a reference to crypto FETÖ members trying to hide themselves.
