HE DONATED HIS LIVER TO HIS WIFE

As a result of the examinations, it was diagnosed that Makbule Şen needed a liver transplant. Following this, Necmettin Şen stated that he could be a donor for his wife. With the operation performed by Prof. Dr. Faik Tatlı, a faculty member of the General Surgery Department and the Organ Transplantation Center at Harran University Hospital, half of the liver taken from Makbule Şen's husband was transplanted to her.

The transplant is the second successful operation performed in the Liver Transplant Unit of Harran University Hospital within the last month, and it was reported that both the patient and the donor, whose post-operative follow-ups are proceeding smoothly, are in good health, and they are planned to be discharged shortly.

"YOU WERE MY LIFE, YOU BECAME MY LIVER"

The Şen couple, who have 4 children, were moved to a room after their treatments in the intensive care unit. Emotional moments were experienced when Makbule Şen was brought to her husband Necmettin Şen shortly after. Makbule Şen asked her husband, "Where is my flower?" Necmettin Şen replied, "I gave you my liver, you were my life, you became my liver." Hospital staff quickly provided the flower.

"THE EMOTIONS I EXPERIENCED ARE INEXPRESSIBLE"

Thanking her husband and the doctors who performed the surgery, Makbule Şen said, "I have 4 children, I am very happy. I don't know what to say. We went to Ankara, we couldn't get results. We researched, found Prof. Faik, and came here from Diyarbakır Çermik. The emotions I experienced are indescribable. I thank all the healthcare workers, especially my doctor."

Prof. Dr. Ahmet Uyanıkoğlu, the head of the Gastroenterology Department at Harran University Hospital, stated that the patient has been under follow-up for a long time, saying, "Our patient applied to our center from Diyarbakır. It was determined that individuals with Wilson's disease in her family could not be donors.
