While watching his son's football training in Antalya, a man suffered a heart attack and lost consciousness in the emergency room he reached on his own. The mechanical technician was revived after receiving 60 minutes of uninterrupted CPR and 20 electric shocks. The 51-year-old man was discharged without experiencing any neurological issues, despite his heart stopping for an hour.
A medical miracle occurred in Antalya. Oğuz Kağan Çil (51), a father of three, suddenly fell ill while watching his son's football training. He went to Kepez State Hospital in his own vehicle and lost consciousness while applying to the emergency department. Emergency Medical Specialist Dr. Can Bilal began emergency intervention with chest compressions on the patient.
60 MINUTES OF CHEST COMPRESSION, 20 SHOCKS
Çil received uninterrupted chest compressions for approximately 60 minutes and was shocked 20 times. After long efforts, signs of life began to appear. Later, he was taken into surgery by Assoc. Prof. Dr. İbrahim Ersoy and his team from the hospital's cardiology department, where a 5.5-centimeter stent was placed. Çil, whose blocked artery was opened, regained his health after a 4-day treatment. Despite his heart stopping for an hour, Çil was discharged from the hospital without experiencing any neurological issues.
"A SERIOUS ELECTRICAL STORM OCCURRED"
Assoc. Prof. Dr. İbrahim Ersoy stated that the patient experienced a serious "electrical storm" during the initial intervention. He noted that their hopes diminished when they initially did not receive a response from the patient after 60 minutes of chest compressions and shocks, but they continued to fight without losing hope. After applying more than 20 shocks to the patient, they detected a weak pulse, and Ersoy said, "During the coronary angiography, we found a blockage and serious narrowing from the mouth section to the middle part of the front artery of the heart, and we placed a 5.5-centimeter stent."
CONSCIOUSNESS RETURNED AFTER 12 HOURS
Emphasizing that the electrical storm slowed down after the intervention, Ersoy stated that the patient's consciousness returned approximately 12 hours later, and he was taken off the ventilator.
NO DAMAGE DETECTED
Ersoy pointed out that despite the patient's heart stopping for an hour, there were no issues with brain functions, stating, "According to medical literature, 98% of those who are revived after more than half an hour of chest compressions experience neurological damage. However, our patient had no sequelae (tissue damage). This situation made us proud professionally."
"DOCTORS BROUGHT ME BACK TO LIFE BY PUSHING BOUNDARIES"
Oğuz Kağan Çil also expressed that he does not remember anything after reaching the hospital's emergency department. He shared that he learned from his relatives that the doctors intervened with great dedication and effort, saying, "The doctors brought me back to life by pushing boundaries. Their effort for a patient made me very happy. I was very emotional. God spared me for my children. I am very happy." Çil stated that he would eat healthier and quit smoking to avoid experiencing the same situation again.
