Geologist Prof. Dr. Ahmet Ercan shared the geophysical map prepared by the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM), which shows the ground structure of the city. The map illustrates which areas have more resilient ground and which are riskier in the event of a possible earthquake using colors.

WHAT DOES EACH COLOR MEAN?
Ercan also explained what the colors on the map represent. Accordingly;
Dark Blue: The most resilient, safest places.
Green: Resilient, safe places.
Yellow: Unstable, unsafe places.
Brown: The most unstable, most unsafe places.
65% OF DESTRUCTION COMES FROM THE GROUND!
Prof. Dr. Ercan highlighted the role of the ground in earthquake destruction in his post, providing a striking piece of information: "During an earthquake, 65% of the destruction comes from the ground, and 35% comes from issues related to the structure. The solution is a solid ground and a solid building."
