The Mayor of Beylikdüzü, Mehmet Murat Çalık, who was detained as part of the corruption and terrorism investigations targeting the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, has been arrested.
According to the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, a decision has been made regarding Beylikdüzü Mayor Mehmet Murat Çalık, who was detained as part of the "corruption" investigation against the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM). A decision was made for Çalık's arrest.
WHO IS MEHMET MURAT ÇALIK?
Mehmet Murat Çalık was born in 1972 in Maçka, Trabzon. Çalık, one of the three children of a mother from Rize and a father from Trabzon, completed his primary and secondary education in Maçka and his high school education at Trabzon High School.
He graduated from the City and Regional Planning department of the Faculty of Architecture at Istanbul Technical University in 1997. In 1998, Çalık became a founding partner of a company operating in the urban planning sector and served in various managerial roles and as vice president at the Istanbul Branch of the Chamber of City Planners between 2008 and 2014.
From 2014 to 2018, he held the positions of Technical Coordinator and Deputy Mayor at Beylikdüzü Municipality. Çalık, who is a member of civil society organizations such as Trabzonspor, Beylikdüzü Volleyball Specialization Club, and the Western Istanbul Foundation, is married and a father of two.
Mehmet Murat Çalık was elected Mayor of Beylikdüzü in 2019. Çalık announced his candidacy for the Beylikdüzü Mayorship in the local elections to be held on March 31, 2024, in December.
