The moment of the minaret's collapse was recorded with a mobile phone camera. While no casualties or injuries occurred, security measures were taken around the mosque. Authorities warned citizens to be cautious against adverse weather conditions and not to go out unless necessary.
In Elazığ, the heavy rain that was effective in the morning hours gave way to thunderstorms in the evening. Around 8:25 PM, lightning struck the minaret of the Sürsürü Mosque located in the Sürsürü neighborhood. As a result of the lightning strike, the minaret collapsed, and the absence of anyone around the mosque prevented a disaster.
