The most popular names for babies in 2025 have been revealed. Just like in 2024, the name given most frequently to baby boys born throughout the year was Alparslan. In 2025, the top name for baby girls changed. The name "Defne," which was the most preferred for baby girls in 2024, was replaced by Alya in 2025. Following Alya for baby girls were "Defne" and "Gökçe," while for baby boys, Alparslan was followed by the names "Göktuğ" and "Metehan."
According to information obtained from the General Directorate of Civil Registration and Citizenship Affairs of the Ministry of Interior, a total of 889,598 babies were born in Turkey in 2025, including 456,932 boys and 432,666 girls.
THE FIRST PLACE FOR BOYS REMAINED UNCHANGED
As in 2024, the name most given to baby boys throughout 2025 was Alparslan. In 2025, 7,651 baby boys were named Alparslan. Following Alparslan, 6,109 boys were named Göktuğ and 5,492 boys were named Metehan.
These names were followed by Yusuf with 4,708, Kerem with 4,154, Miran with 3,877, and Ömer Asaf with 3,792. In addition to these, Atlas and Ömer were also among the most preferred names for baby boys.
FOR GIRLS, THE TOP SPOT CHANGED HANDS
In 2025, the first place in the list of names given to baby girls changed. The name "Defne," which was the most preferred for baby girls in 2024, was replaced by Alya in 2025. Throughout the year, 8,953 baby girls were named Alya, followed by 7,873 girls named Defne and 7,692 girls named Gökçe.
Other popular names for baby girls included Zeynep with 6,338, Asel with 5,977, Umay with 5,728, and Asya with 5,165. Elisa, İnci, Duru, and Elif were also recorded as other highly preferred names for baby girls.
