Seventeen-year-old Özüm Karataşlı, who lost her life in a fire at the Grand Kartal Hotel in Bolu Kartalkaya, was laid to rest in Istanbul. The funeral ceremony held at the Erenköy Galip Paşa Mosque in Kadıköy was attended by Karataşlı's family and relatives who survived the fire.
THE MOTHER'S GAZE WAS DEVASTATING
Özüm Karataşlı's funeral was taken to Ümraniye Hekimbaşı Cemetery for burial after the prayers and rituals. The image of the mother looking at the coffin containing her child's lifeless body from the funeral vehicle with tearful eyes broke the hearts of those who witnessed it.
"THEY MADE ME IDENTIFY MY CHILD'S CORPSE"
The grieving mother, Nilgün Karataşlı, said, "The news of my child's death was on the newspaper headlines, they made me identify my child's corpse, how can a mother identify a corpse?" as she was overwhelmed with tears.
"MY HEART IS BURNING, I LOST MY ANGEL"
Father Macit Karataşlı stated, "My heart is burning, I lost my angel. There were no precautions. There was no fire escape, no alarm, no detector. We threw the sheet down. Özüm was staying with her sisters, we were staying with my wife. She woke up and woke us up. Coincidentally, there was an elevator across the room. When she said, 'Come on, we are going quickly,' she panicked and ran to the elevator, and they all died there at once. What can I say to whom? In this country, human life is cheap. One blames the other, and the other blames the next. Who is guilty here? We are guilty." he said.
