The mother S.K., who is on trial for allegedly stabbing her 3-year-old daughter to death in the Sarayönü district of Konya, appeared before the judge. The hearing, held by the Konya 4th High Criminal Court, was attended by the detained defendant S.K., who is facing a life sentence, and the lawyers of both parties.

THE MOTHER'S DEFENSE OF "I'M SORRY"

The prosecution requested that the defendant be sentenced to life imprisonment for the crime of "deliberately killing a descendant who cannot defend themselves," arguing that the defendant's mental health evaluation indicated she had full criminal capacity. S.K. claimed she was sorry and that she was not herself at the time of the incident.

Defense attorney Muhammet Hüseyin Büyükkaya stated that two previous mental health reports had been prepared regarding his client, but different conclusions were reached, and he requested that the case be sent back to the forensic medicine institution for a new report to be prepared.

SENTENCED TO LIFE IMPRISONMENT

After sentencing the defendant to life imprisonment for the crime of "deliberately killing a descendant who cannot defend themselves," the court applied a "good behavior" reduction, reducing the sentence to life imprisonment.

The mother of three, S.K., had stabbed her 3-year-old daughter to death in Sarayönü district on March 24, 2023, and had also harmed herself.
